![]() Eric and Dan and Kim and Ben and Jerry Danberly has had a wonderful stream of visitors in the past couple of months. I think we're officially prepared to open that bed and breakfast that Kim has always dreamed of.
Lynda Kido First, Kim's mom came for her second visit at the end of May. The weather was slightly cool, and while Kim and Dan (and the rest of Boulder) were quite comfortable in t-shirts and flip-flops, Kim's mom Lynda bundled up in full winter gear. Lynda is from Phoenix, so she is excused for wearing long underwear, hat, scarf and parka when the weather is in the high 50s. We strolled the Boulder Creek Festival, did some lovely hikes, and ate lots of delicious high-calorie food. Lynda helped in the garden, and gets full credit for the lovely rows of carrots, radishes and nasturtiums that she planted. Pauline & Eric Braha Dan's parents were Danberly's next visitors. They came up to visit as a present to Dan for his 30th birthday. Yes, Dan turned 30. No, we haven't quite accepted it. Eric and Pauline got to have a lovely reunion with the Eric's cousin Rozzy and her family who live here in Boulder. Rozzy made us some fancy paella which was delicious. We spent a day up in Rocky Mountain National Park enjoying the scenery and did a lovely hike. Katie & Cara Casper Up next were Kim's cousins Katie and Cara. Katie is 16 and Cara is 12. They are awesome. Kim and the girls had a great day walking and shopping around downtown. Cara bought a cupcake cookbook which inspired the creation of delicious homemade cupcakes. Katie and Kim talked about the Twilight series, and swooned over how hot Rob Pattinson is. The girls did makeovers with Katie's extensive makeup collection (pictures purposely withheld). They dressed up and went to the Renaissance Festival, went to the farmer's market, and ate lots of delicious high-calorie food. The girls stopped at Rebecca's Herbal Apothecary to procure the necessary ingredients to make lip balm and masks and scrubs and steams for our facials. It was a most-excellent visit. Becca Puleo Kim and Becca were roommates when they worked together at Signal Mountain Lodge in Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole, WY back in the day. Becca is a champ. She drove 9 hours to Boulder, arriving on Friday evening, then turned around and did the 9 hour drive again on Sunday. It was a short yet awesome visit. We hiked Eldorado Canyon, went to the Farmer's Market, and ate lots of delicious high-calorie food. We had friends over for a cookout and played bocce ball and balderdash into the wee hours of the morning. Kim and Becca played several hands of the most-excellent card game Five Crowns. Becca earned extra points for bringing Kim and Dan a dozen everything bagels from the world's best bagel shop, Pearl St. Bagels in Jackson, WY. Kim is now trying to convince Becca to move to Boulder so they can be BFFs. Peet Hayes Peet's sophmore visit to Boulder was filled with all manner of good times and debauchery. Dan and Peet started the visit by tubing down Boulder Creek. Now, this probably sounds like a relaxing activity involving lazily floating down a babbling brook, sipping cold beers and enjoying the sun and friendship. Do not be mistaken... it was not. It was truly a fight to stay alive. The last Danberly post mentioned the unusually high rainfall Boulder has been experiencing. Lots of rain in Boulder means lots of snow in the mountains. Lots of snow in the mountains means lots of snowmelt and runoff. Lots of snowmelt and runoff coupled with high rainfall in the lowlands means that Boulder Creek is a rushing whitewater river of death. Many folks were lined up along Boulder creek with their fashionable swimwear and tubes, staring aghast at the menacing water. Dan and Peet were some of the only souls crazy enough to jump in, risking life and limb for a thrilling rush of adrenaline. They fought to keep their heads above water and their bodies in one piece. They succeeded, but barely. Dan came home with long, hateful gashes covering his back and torso. Peet suffered a mildly severe head injury from being sucked by an undertow and bashed head-first into a large rock. Peet also severely injured and probably broke his little toe, causing him to hobble and limp for the rest of his visit. Dan and Peet barely made it out alive, but are now much wiser and have forged a bond of friendship which will last forever more. Peet, Kim, and Dan celebrated their victory with a delicious Indian dinner at the Royal Peacock. Garlic naan, saag paneer and absinthe make everything better. The next day, we forced Peet to hike on his gimp foot in the freezing rain, then we ate some lunch at the farmer's market. Later that night, we had friends over for a 4th of July barbecue where we ate lots of delicious high-calorie food. Again, we made Peet hike on his gimp foot, this time up to Chatauqua to watch the fireworks. It was splendid. Becky & Sharri & Johnny Depp Becky and Sharri are good old friends of Dan's, and we were delighted to hear that Becky was coming to stay with us for the weekend while Sharri was in Denver doing a workshop. Becky pitched her tent in the backyard and treated us to her lovely presence. We went to the farmer's market, went on some lovely hikes, and ate some yummy food (see below). Not the sexy actor, Johnny Depp is Becky's awesome dog. Meg & Tory Harper Meg is a friend of a friend of Kim and her mom. Now she's moved up to straight-up Friend status. Meg is an artist, and she was participating in the Boulder Art Fair. She and her husband Tory came up from Mesa, AZ to stay with us for the weekend. It was the same weekend that Becky and Johnny were here, so we had a big houseful. We were nervous that our little house would be bursting at the seams, but it turned out to be quite lovely. Sweet corn had finally made its way to the farmer's market, and one of the vendors had a deal where you could take all the corn you could fit into a plastic grocery bag for just $5.00. Kim jumped on this sweet deal only to be suddenly overwhelmed with the prospect of eating 25 ears of corn. What's a girl to do? Throw a Corn Party of course! So we invited all of our friends over, as well as Meg and Tory's friend Bobby, and stuffed that many more people into our wee hobbit house. It was awesome. Sharat & Lisa Sharat is an old friend of Dan's from middle and high school. Luckily, Dan had sideburns even then, so Sharat was able to recognize him. Sharat and his terrific girlfriend Lisa showed up the same weekend that Becky and Meg and Tory were here. Sharat plays his saxophone pretty much wherever he can, even in our bathroom. We enjoyed a jazzy night of strong drinks and bluesy sax, and finished with promises of returning next year. Oh, daddy-O! So who among you, dear readers will be our next guest? By the looks of it, you can expect lovely hikes, a trip to the farmer's market, and eating lots of delicious, high-calorie food. You are always welcome, and we look forward to your visit! Love, Kim&Dan Becca posted on 2009-08-10 at 7:31 am can't wait for my next visit! more high calorie food, games and exploring boulder!! you two are the best hosts ever......as exhibited by your most fun photos and commentary.
