Melbourne Proper


Melbourne, for those that have been there, is clearly the coolest, cleanest, most culturally excellent city they've ever been to. Of course, they probably haven't been to Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo, but neither have we, and thus we maintain our claim.

The coffee is excellent in all its forms; long black (an americano with less water), flat white (a latte with only the thickest foam), caffe mocha (espresso, steamed milk, and only a tasteful amount of chocolatey goodness).

Long, dense, highly cultured alleys interweave the city streets, packed with quality cafes, talented street performers, artistic graffiti. An endless chain of fashionable shops stretch out from the center of the city, making it comparable to New York or San Francisco, though the subtle feeling of the city is much cleaner, safer and friendlier than its America counterparts.

And the best part of the coffee in Melbourne - not a paper cup in sight! Ahhh. Oh, and one more cool thing about coffee in Oz - you SIT down to have coffee - no running around with a Starbucks badged cup as proof of daily club membership. No wonder cars in Australia don't have cup holders! True... why would you need them when you can take time to savor sidewalk life pass by? :-) (I even saw a baby carriage here in Phoenix with 3 [three] cup holders on board!!)
